My Final 5 Minute Video

MY FINAL VIDEO

This is my final video

What worked?

what worked was that I had enough footage for my film and I used all the skills that were taught to me. What also worked was the transitioning from one video to the other by making cuts which made the video work more effectively.

What didn't work?

The only thing that didn't work was the photos during the film as I forgot to enlarge the images and the quality of some videos. Some of the videos were blurry and pixelated while the rest were just right.

What could i do differently?
next time when i have the opportunity to make another 5 minute video I will try to enlarge the photos and record clips clearly

Video Analysis - Gan Gan

This is a memory themed video called Gan Gan which I find this video very touching and very special. This film was taken and directed by Gemma Green-Hope. I found this video very creative because I dont know how long it took Gemma to make this as she payed tribute to her grandmother by showing the things that her grandmother loved to do and she made it in a way that i couldnt think of doing myself personally and i guess she had the patience to make something so special and making it into a short film something i would do but not right now

Video Analysis - Constellation Quilt

This is film of Emily Fischer who made a quilt and in the video she explains about her life and shows her making a quilt. the camera angles that she used were mainly close ups and mid shots. this also shows a timeline of how long it took her to make that quilt. the only thing i would work on is the brightness because as you can see when it showed her talking she was a bit bright so thats one thing i would work on but other than that the whole video was great. the reason why it was great was because it had a meaning to it. I think that this could be also related to the theme "memory" because she told a story of when she was young and how her father took her to see a comet which was pretty special.

Video Analysis - The Photo Man by Ben Kitnik

This film was taken and directed by Ben Kitnik who took footage of Mark Kologi who is a photographer who sold millions of old forgotten personal photos of strangers. This film is kind of like a mixture of a short documentary and an interview which caught my attention as it is based on the theme "Memory". The sound and image components also caught my attention as it was an emotional memory video kind of like a tribute video. i find this very emotional because Mark is telling a story of when he took all of the photos and it meant to him in his memoir

Video Analysis - 120 seconds by Rodger Dorig

This is a short film of Roger Dorig which is called 120 seconds. this is a film of him making a custom designed belt. he talks about his profession and how he makes a lot of designs and how much time he has to make things.  this film has a lot of cuts in it and a lot of close ups as you can see throughout the film that the close ups are showing what he is doing until at the very end it transits into a wide shot of his stuff that he made before. The music and images really went along as he was explaining about what he does  and it really got me into it just to watch it a lot more. I also loved the way how the filmmaker mix the interview, the sound and image because it gave me more of an understanding of what he was doing and why he loves doing it. I guess that the cutaways are important because you might find it boring if you play the whole video of the person trying to make something that would take him 45 - 50 minutes where you can cut the videos into a short film.

Video Analysis - Daydreaming Italy: Lost In The Alps

This clip was made and directed by Matty Brown and in this film it shows a timeline of him taking a journey to when he went to Italy meeting new people and seeing many new faces as he explained that it was a journey he will never forget.

There were a lot of transitions in this film and a lot of cuts as he has shown the places that he explored in Italy and a wide range of shots particularly close ups and wide shots and its very creative that he add a clip of the clock as the clock is ticking down which caught my eye as the title itself says Daydream so im guessing that the theme of this film is based on Memory.

Q. How are images and sound components used to evoke our emotions?

A. What also got my attention was the images and sounds of this film because it just gave me a taste of reality as if i was there so I emotionally felt that I was there in Italy.

Q. How do you think this video might explore the theme memory?

A. Well its obvious that the title itself explores the theme memory and also the places that he went to are all based on memory as you can see the clips that it was not taken professionally but it kind of look like a home video which I find it cool

Memory video #2 - Screen Printing

2nd Memory

This is my second video edit and the Theme is also based on Memory like the previous video i edited but this time this video is about when i first started screen printing on T Shirts so in this video it doesn't show me screen printing on a T Shirt but it shows footage of me preparing my screens to put a customised design on it for me to print on a shirt. Thanks to one of my classmates Pale Ailaoa for filming me.

What i liked about this video is that I used the camera a lot more often and used the skills and techniques that we have learnt in class for the past few weeks.

In the end of the film it shows the designs that I have printed on shirts last year and this year and finished off with my company name and and contact info which i thought would be a comedic gesture.

Week 1 Exercise (ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed)

Video 1
Iso: 100
Shutter: 50
Aperture: f/4.0

Video 2
Iso: 500
Shutter: 50
Aperture: f/5.6

Video 3
Iso: 3200
Shutter: 50
Aperture: f/5.6

These are videos of one of my classmates (Jason) painting in class who gave me permission to film him painting for one of his experiments.

What differences do I notice in these videos?

The differences I see in these videos is that in one of them is too dark where the other clip is too bright while the other has just the right aperture, shutter, and Iso.

The first video was blurry because i was playing around with the lenses so you could not see a clear picture of Jason

The second video is also the same as the first video but except that its brighter than the first video.

As for the third I managed to get the right depth of field where everything was in focus.
